Integer Operations Practice

Skill: integer-operations

Integer Operations Practice

An endless supply of never-repeating integer problems with instant feedback. Add, subtract (including double negatives), multiply, and divide signed numbers — one problem at a time.

1 Practice

Type your answer and press Check answer (or Enter). A wrong answer earns a hint first; a second miss walks you through the full solution.

Score 0 · Streak 0 · Problem 0
Score counts first-try correct answers. Streak counts consecutive correct answers.
Adding integers

How to enter answers

  • Type an integer like -13, 5, or 0. A leading + is fine too.
  • Word problems ask for just the number — leave off the °F or the dollar sign.

2 What you’ll practice

Every problem is generated fresh from 12 templates — a problem never repeats until its whole pool is used up.

Adding integers

Same-sign sums, mixed signs where the bigger size wins, and walks that cross zero.

−7 + 4 → −3

Subtracting integers

Walk left for subtraction, and rewrite double negatives: a − (−b) = a + b.

−5 − (−9) → 4

Multiply, divide, and more

The sign grid in action, exact division, temperature and money word problems, missing addends, and multi-step challenges.

(−6)(−4) → 24

3 Watch out for these

The three mistakes students make most often with integers.

1. Dropping the negative in subtraction

Wrong: −5 − 3 = 8    Right: −5 − 3 = −8 — at −5, walk 3 more left.

2. Treating a double negative as “more negative”

Wrong: −4 − (−4) = −8    Right: −4 − (−4) = −4 + 4 = 0. Rewrite it first.

3. Giving a product the wrong sign

Wrong: (−3)(−3) = −9    Right: (−3)(−3) = 9 — same signs → positive.
