Parametric Equations Tutor Help
A one-page recap of evaluation, elimination, and direction, plus a way to ask a tutor for a worked explanation.
1 Quick recap
The essentials on one page before you ask for help.
Core moves
Point at t: substitute into x(t), y(t) ยท Eliminate: t = (x − b)/a → y = (c/a)(x − b) + d
Circle: x = h + r cos t, y = k + r sin t → (x − h)² + (y − k)² = r²
Circle: x = h + r cos t, y = k + r sin t → (x − h)² + (y − k)² = r²
Rectangular form shows the path; the parameter shows the journey (direction + interval).
Stuck? Check these first
- Substitute t into both equations — x(t) and y(t) are a package.
- The t-interval restricts the curve: compute the endpoints before sketching.
- Elimination loses direction: report which way the point moves as t increases.
- cos2t + sin2t = 1 is the key that turns trig parametrics into (x − h)² + (y − k)² = r².
