Coordinate Plane Practice

Skill: coordinate-plane

Coordinate Plane Practice

An endless supply of never-repeating coordinate plane problems: name quadrants, read coordinates from plots, measure axis-aligned distances, and pull domains and ranges from relations.

1 Practice

Type your answer and press Check answer (or Enter). A wrong answer earns a hint first; a second miss walks you through the full solution.

Score counts first-try correct answers. Streak counts consecutive correct answers.
Problem

How to enter answers

  • Quadrants: type Quadrant I, Quadrant II, III, or IV.
  • Axes: type x-axis, y-axis, or origin.
  • Points: type (3, -2) — parentheses optional, x first.
  • Sets: separate values with commas, e.g. 1, 3, 5 (any order).
  • Distances: a plain number.

2 What you’ll practice

Every problem is generated fresh from templates across several question types — a problem never repeats until its whole pool is used up.

Quadrants

Name the quadrant — or spot points hiding on the axes.

(−4, 5) → Quadrant II

Read the plot

A point is plotted for you; read its coordinates.

plotted dot → (3, −2)

Relations

Domains and ranges from sets of ordered pairs.

{(1,2),(3,4)} → domain {1, 3}

3 Watch out for these

The mistakes students make most often on these problems.

1. Swapping x and y

Wrong: (3, −2) plotted at (−2, 3).   Right: x first, then y.

2. Forgetting the origin

Wrong: the origin is (1, 1).   Right: the origin is (0, 0).

3. Quadrants for axis points

Wrong: (0, −3) in Quadrant III.   Right: on the y-axis — no quadrant.
