Sine Wave Explorer
Skill goal: See how amplitude, period, phase shift, and midline shape the graph of y = A·sin(B(x − C)) + D.
1 · Observe
Watch the wave. The gold dashed lines mark the midline ± amplitude.
2 · Manipulate
3 · Predict
Before touching the sliders: if you double the amplitude, what happens to the highest point of the wave? What if you halve the period — does the wave get taller or more crowded?
4 · See
5 · Explain
The number B = 2π/T controls how fast the wave oscillates: a smaller period T means a bigger B and more humps in the same window. C slides the whole wave left/right (phase shift), and D lifts the midline up/down. The maximum is always D + A and the minimum D − A.
6 · Challenge
Q: For y = 3·sin(x), what is the maximum value?
