Multi-Digit Multiplication Practice
Fresh problems every round: 2-digit multiplication, partial products, powers of 10, and estimation.
How to enter answers
- Type the whole-number answer, e.g.
322. - No commas needed —
1288is fine. - Press Enter to check.
Problem types
2-digit × 1-digit
Warm up with one row of the algorithm.
Example: 34 × 7 = 238
2-digit × 2-digit
The full standard algorithm, with regrouping.
Example: 46 × 28 = 1,288
Partial products
Name one piece of the broken-apart multiplication.
Example: in 23 × 14, 20 × 10 = 200
Powers of 10
Append zeros: 35 × 100 = 3,500.
Example: 7 × 1,000 = 7,000
Estimation
Round to the nearest ten, then multiply.
Example: 48 × 21 ≈ 1,000
Word problems
Real situations with 2-digit factors.
Example: 24 boxes × 15 pencils = 360
Common slip-ups
Forgetting the 0 placeholder
In 23 × 14 the tens row is 23 × 10 = 230, not 23. Write the 0 first.
Misaligned columns
Keep ones under ones. A quick estimate (23 × 14 ≈ 300) catches alignment slips.
Powers of 10: counting zeros wrong
35 × 100 = 3,500 (two zeros), not 350.
