Long Division Practice
Divide multi-digit numbers step by step: 1-digit divisors, 2-digit divisors, and the sneaky zero in the quotient.
How to enter answers
- Whole-number answers: type
39. - With a remainder: type
30 R 5. - For “first digit” questions, type just that one digit.
Problem types
First quotient digit
Where does the answer start?
Example: 847 ÷ 7 starts with 1
2-digit by 1-digit
The full chant on smaller numbers.
Example: 96 ÷ 3 = 32
3-digit by 1-digit
Longer dividends, same moves.
Example: 847 ÷ 7 = 121
Zero in the quotient
The divisor does not fit — write 0.
Example: 612 ÷ 3 = 204
2-digit divisors
Estimate carefully, then chant.
Example: 365 ÷ 12 = 30 R 5
Word problems
Full boxes and leftovers.
Example: 250 items, 12 per box → 20 R 10
Common slip-ups
Quotient digit too big
If digit × divisor overshoots the working number, go one smaller. Estimate first.
The missing zero
612 ÷ 3 = 204, not 24. A 0 is a digit — write it.
Stopping early
Keep chanting until every digit is brought down. The last subtraction gives the remainder.
