Regression Anova Practice

Skill: regression-anova

Regression & ANOVA Practice

Interpret correlation, fit and use least-squares regression lines, and read one-way ANOVA output.

1 Practice

Type your answer and press Check answer (or Enter). A wrong answer earns a hint; a second miss earns a stronger hint; a third miss walks you through the full solution. Scores and streaks are session-only.

Score 0 · Streak 0 · Problem 0
Score counts first-try correct answers. Streak counts consecutive correct answers.
Problem
Enter integers or decimals. Round to two decimals where asked.

2 What you’ll practice

Every problem is generated fresh from templates across several question types — a problem never repeats until its whole pool is used up.

Interpret r

Sign = direction, |r| = strength.

Ex: r = 0.9 → strong positive

Slope

b = r·(sy/sx).

Ex: 0.7·(14/2) → 4.9

Intercept

a = ȳ − bx̄.

Ex: 75 − 4.9·5 → 50.5

Fit data

Least squares on 5 points.

Ex: enter b, then a

Predict

Plug x into ŷ = a + bx.

Ex: 50.5 + 4.9·8 → 89.7

r-squared

% of variation explained.

Ex: r² = 0.64 → 64%

ANOVA F

F = MSB/MSW.

Ex: 60/10 → 6.0

3 Watch out for these

The mistakes students make most often on these problems.

Correlation = causation

r measures association. Causal claims need experiments or strong theory — check for lurking variables.

Extrapolation

Predictions are only trustworthy near the observed x-range.

Intercept at x=0

a is the prediction at x = 0, which is often outside the data and sometimes nonsensical.
