Exponent Rules Practice

Skill: exponent-rules

Exponents Practice

An endless supply of never-repeating exponent problems: product, quotient, and power rules, coefficients under powers, zero and negative exponents, and combined expressions.

1 Practice

Type your answer and press Check answer (or Enter). A wrong answer earns a hint first; a second miss walks you through the full solution.

Score counts first-try correct answers. Streak counts consecutive correct answers.
Problem

How to enter answers

  • Exponent answers: type just the new exponent, e.g. 7 for x7.
  • Coefficient problems: type both numbers separated by a comma, e.g. 8, 6.
  • Fractions: type 1/8.

2 What you’ll practice

Every problem is generated fresh from templates across several question types — a problem never repeats until its whole pool is used up.

The big three

Product, quotient, and power rules with clean integer answers.

x3·x4 → x7

Tricky bits

Coefficients, zero, and negative exponents.

(2x3)2 → 8x6

Combine

Mixed expressions and missing exponents.

x4·x? = x11

3 Watch out for these

The mistakes students make most often on these problems.

1. Multiply vs add

Wrong: x3·x4 = x12.   Right: add: x7.

2. Add vs subtract

Wrong: x6/x2 = x8.   Right: subtract: x4.

3. Negative means flip

Wrong: 2−3 = −8.   Right: 1/8.
