Why it works
Heaviside’s cover-up: multiply both sides by (x−rᵢ) and set x = rᵢ — every other term vanishes, leaving Aᵢ = P(rᵢ)/∏(rᵢ−rⱼ) directly. It is the reverse of adding fractions, and the key that makes rational integrals doable.
